Growth of Online Advertising

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

IAB and Price Waterhouse have released the latest advertising spend figures. 2007 saw an overall increase in advertising spend of 4.3% this equates to £756M online advertising grew by another 38% equating to £797M, so once again internet advertising grew whilst traditional advertising saw a reduction.

Why is this important to you?

More people are now transferring traditional budgets online this is increasing the competition and making it more difficult to secure a prominent position, over a period of time this objective is going to be harder to achieve and so we strongly suggest you review your promotional mix sooner rather than later.

StrawberryDigital can support you with every aspect of your online marketing activity including natural search listings (search engine optimisation) sponsored search listings (cost per click/AdWords) and email marketing. Google now permits conquesting

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

What is conquesting?
Conquesting is the deliberate use of competitors keywords to place adverts next to their products within search engines.

Until last month Google have not allowed this type of advertising to appear within its search results however, now BMW can advertise when a customer types Lexus and Orange can easily advertise to people searching for O2.

A number of people are lobbying against this change stating that conquesting is an unfair practice and will cost companies hundreds of thousands of pounds. Some are also investigating their legal position and may look to pursue a legal case if this is found to be viable.

Google AdWords - Regional Targeting

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

StrawberryDigital was given a brief from an 543 Dental Centre, to support their SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) campaign that promoted regional keywords “Hull Dental Centre”, by targeting people within the Hull area with generic Keywords “Dental Centre”.

AdWords provided the ideal solution allowing StrawberryDigital to create a highly targeted campaign that focused geographically around the Hull area. The campaign has been a massive success providing a position on the first page of Google for each keyword/phrase.

StrawberryDigital also discovered that the quality of the traffic generated by the AdWords campaign also increased with the number of visitors visiting two or more pages increased by over 70% when directed from an AdWords link.

Has Google taught AdWords to Dance?

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Google likes to “dance” a term widely used to describe changes it makes to the calculation that determine a websites position on it’s Search Engine. After a recent query from a client I wondered if AdWords was doing a more personal “dance” for advertisers.

Our client recently set up a Google AdWords account using some free credits provided by a software supplier. After creating the first advert via the system choosing relevant keywords the client was happy, he had an advert on the first page of Google paying a relatively low Cost Per Click.

A week later the advert had moved to the bottom of the second page, after a fortnight the advert was on page five with no clicks and very little views. The client had not made any changes to the campaign so what had happened?

AdWords tells us that bids are calculated by multiplying the Max CPC (Cost Per Click) with QS (Quality Score). My theory is that this quality score is initially set high before being assessed by Google, after assessing the campaign a more accurate rating is provided.

StrawberryDigital can help by optimising elements of your campaign in order to improve your quality score and maintain your position on Googles Search Pages. For more information about the services StrawberryDigital provide visit our website or contact Paul Smith (Paul@Strawberry.co.uk)

Why should you use StrawberryDigital to manage your AdWords campaigns?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Not everyone that uses AdWords succeeds there are numerous disaster story’s where incorrectly setup campaigns drained mountains of cash with little return.

AdWords is a very simple program you choose relevant keywords, write an attention grabbing advert, choose a maximum cost per click that gets you on the first page of Google and your off. You only pay for each click so your bound to make a fortune. You can set a budget, maximum cost per click so why do I need an agency and how can I lose money?

Relating this to traditional media your paying for a potential visitor to enter your store or call your sales department, you are not paying for a sale. Understanding the conversation rate is the most important element to successful Cost Per Click advertising! Once you understand this you can use a variety methods to increase this conversation rate.

StrawberryDigital will work with you to assess the potential of AdWords for you, put a solid structure to your campaign and then monitor and optimise your campaign in order to provide the maximum return on your AdWords investment.
